First Solo Trip to Savannah, Georgia
Last month, I took my first solo trip. I went to Savannah, Georgia. A place I have loved and have been drawn too for as long as I can remember. I’ve loved it so much that I nearly moved there a few years ago, sight unseen! I know, I know kind of crazy….maybe a topic for another blog post. With that in mind though, Savannah seemed like the obvious choice for my first experience traveling alone. To be clear, I have technically travelled alone before. I’ve flown and drove alone but always on the way to meet someone, never on my way to experience the whole trip alone. This was a totally new experience which filled me with pretty equal parts of nervousness and excitement, a place I believe most of the best things come from.
Before I get too far I need to tell you that the trees were one of biggest reason I have always loved Savannah so much. There is just something about those mossy live oaks that I will never get enough of. It also probably goes without saying but the other thing that drew me to Savannah was the beautiful old homes. I stayed on Jones street, once named “the most beautiful street in America” and it did not disappoint. A fun fact that I learned while I was there is that the phrase “keeping up with the Jones’” came from the Jones family that lived right on this street, right out the window of my Airbnb.
I mean can you even handle the cobblestone, the brick, the black and white, all of the greenery? This photo basically holds all of the elements I love most in design, its no wonder I loved this place so much.

The real gift of this trip came from being able to do whatever I wanted to do, whenever I wanted to do it. I had no where I needed to be, no one to agree with on where to go next with. There was nothing to direct me besides what I really wanted to do in that moment.
That meant I spent a lot of time wandering the cobblestone streets, staring at the trees, stopping in local shops, eating at tables for one, and drinking a few of the best rum cocktails I’ve had. It’s at The Public Kitchen & Bar by the way, in case you make it to Savannah soon (which I totally hope you do)!
I also spent a lot of time in my Airbnb just imagining all of the history and people who had lived in this little piece of history. It was an easy place to want to stay. I went to bed early and stayed in bed late drinking coffee.
And after spending most of the last year in yoga pants, I remembered what it was like to wear dresses.
If you’ve ever thought of taking a solo trip or visiting Savannah, Georgia I couldn’t recommend either of them more. I know I’m already over here daydreaming of my next trip.
I’ve saved more of my trip highlights over on Instagram.
