Cabin Designs I’m Loving (as an Interior Designer) | Northwoods A Frame

I’m so excited to share a new blog series with you. One where I travel all throughout the Minnesota Northwoods, sharing cabin designs that I’m loving (as an Interior Designer). And when I tell you we’re kicking it off with a good one, I definitely mean it.

First up, is the Northwoods A-Frame tucked away on forty acres in the Northwoods. This cabin is located near Itasca State Park and it truly feels like a wooded retreat. And when it comes to the design of the space, I can tell you the owners missed no detail.

We may as well start with the kitchen, because honestly it’s a dream and just might be my favorite space in the cabin (but please don’t make me choose). I’ve stayed in a lot of cabins and never expect a full kitchen but this kitchen is truly set up for cooking. The space is made for cooking dinners, baking, and you’re even encouraged to leave a recipe to share with future guests.

And while I always get excited about food, I might get even more excited about the design of this kitchen.

I will forever love a good white and wood combo, especially in a kitchen, especially in a space that has all this natural light. I mean you saw that wood beam with the pendant lights, right?

What makes it even better is the pops of dark brought in with the tile. It keeps the space feeling balanced, just a tiny bit moody, and it helps to visually ground the kitchen with the incredibly tall ceilings.

The fact that the owners chose to use the tile on not only the backsplash, but the front of the island, and behind the open shelving was not only practical but such a good design move.

And hello, a kitchen-aid mixer? Like I said, this kitchen is made to be used and enjoyed.

So I know I asked you not to make me choose the thing I love most about this cabin but if you did make me choose, I would have to say the A-Frame windows. I mean that’s basically the entire A-Frame dream, right? Views like these outside the two story high windows.

It’s obvious that the A-Frame windows really steal the show in any A-Frame design but (in my opinion) so does the loft. And again the owners of the Northwoods A-Frame set this space up perfectly. I fell in love with this vintage writing desk and maybe even more love with the way the light hits this space every evening. Talk about a golden hour, right?

The other side of the room has the coziest chair tucked away in the corner with open shelving filled with books. I definitely spent plenty of time curled up there with a book and a glass of wine.

Bring A Piece of The Northwoods Into Your Home

The views from the loft looking down are just perfect. It was nearly 80 degrees when I was there early this fall so I didn’t build a fire in the wood stove but can you imagine cozying up here on the leather sofa, the fire crackling, a good book in hand, and (I dare say) some snow falling out the window. Ultimate cozy vibes, in my opinion. Go ahead and book that stay already.

And somehow we’ve made it this far without talking about the bathroom. I know I’ve already said a couple of the spaces in this cabin are my favorites but man, if the bathroom isn’t right up there at the top of the list with them.

Just like the kitchen, the bathroom feels like the perfect balance of white and wood, bright and moodiness. And again, just like the kitchen, I love the use of tile in this space. The tiled backsplash is made even better by being built out from the wall to create a shelf. The owners then carried the same tile into the shower. Again, it feels so intentional and so perfectly balanced in the space.

The entire cabin is an actual dream - and my camera roll is full of gorgeous photos I want to share with you (i.e. don’t be surprised if you see a part two show up some day). In the meantime, be sure to follow along here and on Instagram for the next cabin design I’m loving - I can promise you it’s filled with all the cozy Northwoods vibes.

Oh and go ahead, book that stay already - you’ve got my full permission!
