The Altered Abode | Home + Gift Shop is officially open

This definitely feels like one of those blog posts I’ve dreamt about writing for years and here I am actually writing it. Honestly, just saying the words out loud, let alone writing a blog post feels a bit like a dream. Like, what? I actually did the thing.

If you’ve been here for any time at all, you probably know I have been designing spaces inspired by the Minnesota Northwoods for years. And while I will absolutely continue to do that; my long term vision and plan for my business (life??) was to also have a shop filled with items inspired by the Minnesota Northwoods.

And, well…the vision is here!

the newest Home + gift Shop in Duluth, MN is open

The Altered Abode | Home + Gift Shop and Interior Design Studio is located in right in the center of the Lincoln Park neighborhood in Duluth, Minnesota. The shop is right around the corner from Dovetail Cafe + Market, Flora North, and Bali Asian Cuisine and is the perfect stop when looking for things to do in Lincoln Park.

The grand opening celebration was in June and it was everything I could have hoped for. The space was filled with people, all the woodsy scents, all the good music, and some celebratory sips. It was so wild to see the thing I’d been dreaming about for so long finally come to life, right in front of me.

What can You expect to find at the altered abode?

The inspiration behind the shop is, in a lot of ways, the same as the inspiration behind my interior design work - the Minnesota Northwoods. When you stop in the shop you can expect to find items inspired by the beautiful nature around us, in a refined and thoughtful way.

After years of working in the design + home decor industry, I have formed relationships with makers and small business owners from around the world so have basically spent years researching what I would carry in the shop.

It has also been very important to carry items that you won’t see in other local shops. Not only out of respect for the other shop owners already beautifully curating items for their shop but also to make sure that The Altered Abode feels truly unique.

Curating items for the shop is pretty much my favorite thing to do right now and you will likely see new items each time you stop in!

All items are available to ship or can be picked up in the shop. You’ll always find a few more items in the shop vs online (like all of the potted plants that are only available in-store) but I have done my best to make most everything available online as well.
