Why I Created The Altered Abode

Hello! I am Aubrey, the face behind The Altered Abode. I am so happy you are here, reading my very first blog post. Thank you for taking a moment out of your day to stop by and check out my new blog. It means a lot!

This blog may be new, but this dream and love for all things home is not. It’s not new at all. I have loved creating comfortable and beautiful spaces for as long as I can remember. When I was a kid, I cared very little about my Barbies’ hair and clothes, but I sure had some well styled Barbie houses. Later, I found myself spending hours upon hours flipping though old JCPenny catalogs picking out furniture and decor to fill a home (clearly before the days of the internet). As I grew older, the babysitting jobs that I took were based on the “homey-ness” of the house. And still to this day, my best birthday present was when I turned fourteen. I was given a budget of $200 to redecorate my bedroom, however I chose. You better believe I chose to include painted clouds on my ceiling and walls covered with magazine pages of Backstreet Boys and N'Sync. I like to think my style has evolved over time.

While I love a beautiful space, I believe the most important thing about our home is the feeling it creates. I think that your home should be a sanctuary from this busy, chaotic, and sometimes scary world that we live in. It is my opinion, that your home can serve as your greatest act of self care.

This is the exact reason why I have brought to life The Altered Abode. My purpose here is to create spaces that inspire others.

It is my belief that having a home which is comfortable, beautiful, organized, with designated spaces can help you live your best life. I think having a space to come to, to relax in comfort, while surrounded by beauty helps you unwind fully. Having an organized home, free of clutter allows you to be in the moment, rather than constantly staring at the pile of laundry that needs to be done or the bills that need to be paid. By having designated spaces in your home, you can create routines that allow you to work towards goals and desires in your own life. It is my belief that a good life truly starts at home.

It feels like every step I have taken in my life has led to this very moment of writing this post, launching my business, and fulfilling a dream I have had in my heart for as long as I can remember. I am so grateful to have you here alongside me.
