Cabin Designs I’m Loving (as an Interior Designer) | Alkov Cabin

Welcome back to the blog series where I travel all throughout the Northwoods, sharing cabin designs that I’m loving (as an Interior Designer).

Next on the series, is Alkov Cabin Co. located in western Wisconsin. This cozy cabin is nestled in the trees and overlooks Bridget Lake. The owners thoughtfully designed this 480 square foot retreat, packing in all the amenities you would expect, within a small footprint in the Northwoods.

Let’s start with the exterior of this cabin because it’s honestly one of my favorites yet. I mean, the green exterior paired with the cedar trim - a forever classic (and perfect) combination in my opinion.

I stayed in early October just as the leaves were beginning to change. The combination of the orange and yellow changing leaves paired with the exterior was just too good. It also happened to be a rare couple of 70 degree days during my October stay, which was perfect for exploring all the nearby trails. Opie and I hiked at Interstate State Park, only about a 10 minute drive from the cabin.

The porch was the beautiful place to sit in the evening, overlooking the lake, glass of wine in-hand. And since it was early October and I’m a very seasonal red wine drinker, I drank my first red wine of the season here and it was perfection. A couple of glasses on the porch, looking at the lake. And a couple of glasses cozied up in bed while watching When Harry Met Sally, a quintessential fall movie (again, in my opinion).

Okay, I can’t get too far into this post without sharing the kitchen. Honestly, this tiled backsplash designed with Mercury Mosaics was at the top of the list of reasons I chose to feature this cabin in this blog series. The colors, the pattern, and the mix of this design with the simplicity of the open shelving - it’s just too good.

The kitchen came equipped with everything I needed for my stay and more - including the Nespresso machine to make plenty of lattes for those long mornings in bed watching Gilmore Girls. Again, it was early fall, what more could you need? A cozy cabin, good hiking trails, Gilmore Girls, coffee, red wine, and When Harry Met Sally.

The cabin has a beautiful wood stove, which I didn’t need with the 70 degree weather this trip. But, imagine sitting here cozied up with the fire roaring and albums playing. I may or may not have listed to Fleetwood Mac: Rumors from start-to-finish at least five times during my stay.

Bring A Piece of The Northwoods Into Your Home

Did I mention yet that the cabin is dog-friendly? You probably know by now that I love basically all cabin stays but one that I can bring Opie along with for? They’re the absolute best. Opie loves our little getaways too. We basically do all of his favorite things: lots of time outside; long hikes; plenty of snacks and even more snuggles. Okay, fine. We basically have the same list of favorite things. No wonder we get along so well.

Not only is this cabin dog-friendly but it was hands-down the most accommodating stay I’ve had yet for dogs. The owners even provided a little welcome basket for Opie with treats and a toy. I mean, just the cutest.

And somehow we’ve made it this far without talking about all of the vintage items in the space. The owners of Alkov Cabin Co. have done such a great job finding unique vintage items for the cabin, like this cute little brass duck.

I will forever push the importance of mixing old and new items in a space - especially in a space like this. It just makes a home (or cabin) feel collected, unique and helps it not feel like you just dumped an entire Target cart into your living room. The owners really nailed this balance in the space.

This cabin is just cozy and basically feels like a hug as soon as you walk in the doors. So go ahead, book that stay already - you won’t regret it!
